Abstract
UBILLA BRAVO, Gerardo. Isolated Rural Entities of the Metropolitan Area of Santiago, Chile: Localization and Vulnerability. Cuad. Geogr. Rev. Colomb. Geogr. [online]. 2012, vol.21, n.2, pp.127-147. ISSN 0121-215X.
Among the small rural human settlements found in the Metropolitan Area of Santiago, there are some that show a greater physical isolation due to a series of geographical factors and that are generally excluded from most public and private investment policies. The objectives of this research project are the following: identify the most isolated rural entities; determine their vulnerability; and propose initial territorial development objectives by applying a physical-geographical isolation index, an interview, and a logical framework method. The conclusions are that this type of spatial phenomenon can appear in any territory, even in regions with metropolitan areas, and that the problems identified are multidimensional and feature a clearly diferentiated territorial distribution.
Keywords : isolated rural; entity index of isolation; localization; Metropolitan Area of Santiago de Chile; territorial vulnerability.
