Abstract
RINCON GAMBA, Laura. Territories, Cultures and Socio-spatial Hierarchies in Contemporary Migration. Cuad. Geogr. Rev. Colomb. Geogr. [online]. 2013, vol.22, n.1, pp.81-92. ISSN 0121-215X.
The article argues that the social problem stemming from contemporary migratory processes can be understood within the context of the repositioning and intensification of socio-spatial hierarchies. The hypothesis is developed by acknowledging that territorial belonging becomes a criterion for social differentiation, classification, and organization into hierarchies, thus demonstrating that cultures and territories naturally overlap. Tis implies that the condition of migrant, together with other hierarchical social categories, such as class, gender, and ethnic-national belonging, among others, causes exclusion and domination.
