Abstract

GONZALEZ SANTANA, Octavio. The Challenge of Water Management in Mexican Regions in the Context of Climate Change: The Case of the Turbio River Basin. Cuad. Geogr. Rev. Colomb. Geogr. [online]. 2013, vol.22, n.2, pp.125-144. ISSN 0121-215X.

Abstract Salvaging historical memory may well be a significant element for the design of strategies designed to alleviate the effects of climate change. This study focuses on the case of the recurring floods and periods of drought that have recently affected the Turbio River Basin, a drainage area located in western Mexico. Through an interdisciplinary approach that included archival research and fieldwork, this project found that it is feasible to construct proposals for solutions based on recovering water harvesting practices in zones where it was common until the mid-20th century.

Keywords : water boxes; climate change; water harvesting; watershed; ecosystem services.
