In 1821, Mexico, already an independent country, had an extensive territory, but it's still undefined borders hindered the territorial consolidation of the State. Both the northern and southern borders were established in the 19th century by the border commissions appointed by the government. These entities carried out the scientific work that resulted in planting markers on the terrain and producing the corresponding cartography. The article seeks to recover and evaluate the scientific and technical work of the commissioners through the revision of historical archives such as written documents and cartography.
