Abstract

ZUBELZU MINGUEZ, Sergio  and  ALLENDE ALVAREZ, Fernando. The Concept of Landscape and its Constitutive Elements: Requirements for Adequate Management of the Resource and Adaptation of Legal Tools in Spain. Cuad. Geogr. Rev. Colomb. Geogr. [online]. 2015, vol.24, n.1, pp.29-42. ISSN 0121-215X.  https://doi.org/10.15446/rcdg.v24n1.41369.

The specific characteristics of landscape, which differentiate it from other territorial or environmental variables, must be taken into account for its management. The article identifies those distinctive features of landscape through an in-depth review of the literature, focusing especially on the perception of landscape and the territorial nature of the latter, rather than only on its singularity or the need for its active management (which goes beyond high-impact activities). On that basis, it develops a series of principles that make it possible to design landscape management tools. Finally, the article presents a critical review of management tools and regulations used in Spain and conclude that their suitability is rather limited.

Keywords : landscape assessment; landscape management; landscape; perception of landscape.
