Abstract

CAPACCI, Alberto  and  MANGANO, Stefania. Natural Disasters. Cuad. Geogr. Rev. Colomb. Geogr. [online]. 2015, vol.24, n.2, pp.35-51. ISSN 0121-215X.  https://doi.org/10.15446/rcdg.v24n2.50206.

During the past forty years, the number of natural disaster victims has increased fivefold worldwide. The main causes of this phenomenon are uncontrolled increases in populations, particularly urban populations, and the socioeconomic, environmental and political situations of certain regions. The aim of this study is to provide ideas regarding the main questions (including theoretical, typological, dimensional and cost-related concerns) linked to natural disasters and examine which questions can stimulate reflections ranging from theoretical considerations to more practical and operational issues.

Keywords : costs; damages; origin of natural disasters; typologies of phenomena; victims.
