In this article, the meanings of the concepts of socioeconomic vulnerability, environmental justice and spatial justice are discussed with respect to socionatural risks and disasters. This examination is based on the fact that such risks are social constructions derived from human-based changes to the environment. This study explains how socioeconomic vulnerability is essential to understanding the causes of disasters and how the consequences of disasters are not homogeneous but are instead distributed in accordance with the conditions of that vulnerability. Subsequently, this paper discusses the ways in which the notions of environmental justice and spatial justice can contribute to the management of risks and disasters by reducing spatial inequalities and the impacts of disasters.
