Abstract

PUEBLA, Adonis Ramón; MARTINEZ QUINTANA, Leusnier; SUAREZ GARCIA, Célida  and  SALINAS CHAVEZ, Eduardo. The Determination of Agricultural and Forest Potentialities in Mountains Areas: Municipality of Tercer Frente, Cuba. Cuad. Geogr. Rev. Colomb. Geogr. [online]. 2017, vol.26, n.1, pp.65-75. ISSN 0121-215X.  https://doi.org/10.15446/rcdg.v26n1.52754.

Abstract Delivery in usufruct of idle land for food production in the Tercer Frente municipality does not always take into account the real potential of the territory or existing environmental regulations and standards for the occupation of these spaces. The research begins with the gathering of vegetation cover maps, GIS modeling of variables and analysis of environmental regulations for each intended use. A scenario is offered for agricultural and forestry potential and their appropriate use in terms of the municipality's food production, determining that the territory, despite being 95% mountainous, has suitable locations for this production without compromising the protection of the environment.

Keywords : GIS modeling; farming potentialities; forestry potentialities; environmental protection; food production.
