Abstract

PERRUOLO, Gustavo  and  CAMARGO, Cristopher. Estimation of Touristic Carrying Capacity in the Chorro El Indio Area of Táchira, Venezuela. Cuad. Geogr. Rev. Colomb. Geogr. [online]. 2017, vol.26, n.2, pp.77-90. ISSN 0121-215X.  https://doi.org/10.15446/rcdg.v26n2.59259.

The study aimed to estimate the carrying capacity to determine how to improve the ecotourism infrastructure and related services in the “Chorro El Indio” area. We made an inventory of available infrastructure, georeferenced with a global positioning system (GPS) and a geographic information system (GIS). Then, we calculated the physical carrying capacity (PCC), real (RCC) and effective (ECC). The results show that the area presents significant demand mainly by the inhabitants of the city of San Cristobal, with PCC 2,344 visits/day, RCC 1,029 visits/day and ECC 629 visits/day, respectively.

Keywords : carrying capacity; Chorro El Indio; ecotourism; GIS.
