Abstract

REYES PALACIOS, Alejandra Cecilia; TORRES ACOSTA, José Luis; VILLARRAGA FLOREZ, Liz Farleidy  and  MEZA ELIZALDE, María Constanza. Valuing the Landscape and Evaluation of the Interpretive Potential as a Tool for Sustainable Tourism in the Las Monjas Eco-park. Cuad. Geogr. Rev. Colomb. Geogr. [online]. 2017, vol.26, n.2, pp.177-194. ISSN 0121-215X.  https://doi.org/10.15445/rcdg.v26n2.61088.

The police district (inspección de policía) La Esperanza, in the municipality of La Mesa (Cundinamarca), with its scenic beauty, purity and abundance of its waters, biodiversity of its flora and fauna and its landscape, offers a scenario conducive to ecotourism development in the region. First, we characterized the landscape of the Las Monjas eco-park; then, we calculated the interpretative potential of the interest sites, which indicated that the load capacity is limited for management of this landscape setting. We recommend a management plan that links all local actors, using environmental interpretation as a tool to ensure natural resources conservation and sustainable tourism development.

Keywords : tourism load capacity; ecotourism; landscape beauty index; interpretive potential.
