Abstract

MADRID RESTREPO, Jorge H.; AGUILAR CASTRO, Mariluz; VELEZ VARGAS, León D.  and  MURIEL RUIZ, Sandra B.. The Risk of Losing Traditional Production Systems due to the Touristic Threat in the Near Western Antioquia (Colombia). Cuad. Geogr. Rev. Colomb. Geogr. [online]. 2017, vol.26, n.2, pp.309-325. ISSN 0121-215X.  https://doi.org/10.15446/rcdg.v26n2.59154.

The tourism effect on Production Systems (SP) can be analyzed as the risk of loss and as a consequence of threat and vulnerability. In Western Antioquia, tourism is a transformative activity, so we evaluated if it threatens traditional SP and the risks posed. The study looked at the intensity of tourism and determined the vulnerability of six traditional SP, considering multiple external and internal factors. We found that tourism indeed represents a risk for traditional SP and that the most vulnerable ones are those where technology is inadequate for biophysical conditions, where the operator is not the owner or where generational succession is lacking. Planning strategies are required to promote tourism with cultural identity.

Keywords : threat; cultural identity; risk; production system; tourism; vulnerability.
