Abstract

CLEMENTE DE SOUZA, Edson Belo. Tourism as Regional Integrator in the Tri-Cities of Foz do Iguaçu (Brazil), Ciudad del Este (Paraguay) and Puerto Iguazú (Argentina). Cuad. Geogr. Rev. Colomb. Geogr. [online]. 2017, vol.26, n.2, pp.355-371. ISSN 0121-215X.  https://doi.org/10.154467rcdg.v26n2.56843.

This article analyzes the territorial dynamics generated by tourism in the tri-cities of Foz do Iguaçu (Brazil), Ciudad del Este (Paraguay) and Puerto Iguazú (Argentina). This dynamic, generated by the number of visitors, can be seen in the four main tourist sites: the Iguaçu National Park (Brazil), the Iguazu National Park (Argentina) the Itaipú Binacional Hydroelectric Power Plant and the Jesuit Ruins. Tourism has been an integration factor between these three cities, which form a transborder region; nevertheless, Foz do Iguaçu plays a central role for the services it offers and the number of existing objects.

Keywords : Brazil-Paraguay Argentina border; regional interaction; transborder region; tourism.
