Resumen

GONZALEZ BRACCO, Mercedes  y  KOTSCHACK, Linda. The Tourist Space, between Enclave and Spillover: A Study of Two Buenos Aires Neighborhoods. Cuad. Geogr. Rev. Colomb. Geogr. [online]. 2017, vol.26, n.2, pp.373-397. ISSN 0121-215X.  https://doi.org/10.15446/rcdg.v26n2.59182.

This paper problematizes the idea of “tourist space” by thinking of it not as a cartographical fact but from an anthropological point of view, as a product of the practices that are carried out in it. To this end we carried out case studies of two neighborhoods in Buenos Aires: La Boca and Palermo, different in terms of history, landscape and demographical composition, but equal in touristic interest. The methodology included ethnographic strategies, analysis of newspapers and virtual references. Based on the fieldwork, we observed how these neighborhoods’ discourses and practices shape different tourist spaces in terms of design as well as in the use and meaning given to them by the tourists.

Palabras clave : neighborhoods; Buenos Aires; tourist space; tourist practices; urban tourism.
