Abstract

ESPINEL-BERNAL, Óscar Orlando. Citizen Formation and Human Rights Education. Analysis from an Ontology of the Present. Pedagogía y Saberes [online]. 2016, n.45, pp.53-64. ISSN 0121-2494.

By acknowledging the idea of human rights as a gravitational axis of civic education, this article uses M. Foucault's "Ontology of the present" as a methodological perspective in order to examine the concepts that inspire, mobilize, and modulate such rights and their resonances, both in citizen formation and in the kind of democracy sought to be consolidated. These analyses carried out from a history of the present allow us to understand the dynamics of education within and for a universal culture of human rights; an education that is adapted to the context of the globalized world in which practices of citizenship operate from the civilizing rationality always present in Western societies.

Keywords : Human rights education; human rights; citizen formation; ontology of the present.
