Abstract

ARIAS GOMEZ, Diego Hernán  and  RUIZ SILVA, Alexander. Identification of Teachers-in-Training with their Own Nation at a Public University in Bogotá. Pedagogía y Saberes [online]. 2016, n.45, pp.65-78. ISSN 0121-2494.

This paper presents and brings up for discussion the structure and results of a research project on social imaginaries about nation and the identification processes of teachers-in-training in social sciences with their own nation at a public university in Bogotá (Colombia). Using a qualitative-analytical approach, the research focused on the analysis of biography narratives (narrations, photos and writings) of 84 students. There were also held 17 interviews and 2 focal groups. The research evidenced a close relationship between the social imaginaries about nation held by young people, their links and identitary belongings, as well as the stereotypes of nation circulating at school. Thus, it problematizes the devices through which our current society creates or sustains feelings of national affiliation among its citizens, as well as the moral justifications they appeal to when interpellated as 'Colombians.'

Keywords : Education; national identity; young people; nation building; Colombia.
