Immersed in a qualitative perspective with an archeogenealogical approach and supported by elements of the methodological category of governmentality, this reflection paper is the result of a research that aimed to describe and establish emergency conditions in terms of origin, function and operation, of artistic knowledge in Colombian public schools during the first half of the 19th century. To achieve this purpose, the work begins with the exploration of the documents of the time and the acquisition of the information found, in order to identify the regularities that allowed describing the circumstances in which the artistic knowledge emerged, the form they adopted, their purposes and their functioning in public schools; with this, the goal is to enrich the conceptual field of school knowledge, a territory of recent exploration that has been taking form in an area of historical, pedagogical and educational inquiry.
