Abstract

NEUHOLD, Roberta dos Reis. Sociology as a School Subject in Brazil: A Reading from the Educational Reforms. Pedagogía y Saberes [online]. 2023, n.59, pp.155-169.  Epub July 01, 2023. ISSN 0121-2494.  https://doi.org/10.17227/pys.num59-17599.

This article recovers some legal frameworks of the process of inclusion (and exclusion) of Sociology in Brazilian high school to propose a reflection on its history as a school subject. First, it dialogues with studies in the field of the history of education to suggest that the conflicts around the introduction and permanence of Sociology in the high school curriculum exemplifies the relations and clashes between the scientific and school fields, on one hand, and the sphere, on the other. Then, based on a bibliographic review and documental research, whose main source is educational legislation, it proceeds with a review of the period of Sociology in the curricula from 1890 to 2017.

Keywords : Teaching sociology; high and middle school; educational reform, Brazil.
