This article presents a bibliographic review derived from the research “The self-assessment of learning as part of the integral formation of students in the undergraduate programs of the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad de Antioquia”. This review focuses on the self-assessment of learning, integral formation and the relationship between them; its objective is to present the advances and trends of discussion on the subject from the systematization and integration of theoretical references and the results of different studies. In this way, an evolution is evident in the understanding of the investigated concepts and the perspectives of the research that address them, in which self-assessment is essential, as part of the assessment approach for learning.
