Abstract

VIDAL ORTEGA, Antonino  and  LUQUETTA CEDIEL, David. Among rivers, plains and jungle. Cultural aspects of the native people of the Santa Marta Province in the second half of the XVIII. Investig. desarro. [online]. 2015, vol.23, n.1, pp.38-57. ISSN 0121-3261.  https://doi.org/10.14482/indes.22.2.6615.

The establishment of borders by the Spaniards since their arrival, completely reshaped the social panorama of the province of Santa Marta. This process was more noticeable in the second half of the eighteenth century, when the Spanish Crown began to implement the Bourbon Reforms. In response to this phenomenon, native and non-native communities in this territory were necessary to transform culturally in order to assimilate or resist the reformist project.

Keywords : Social panorama; cultural transformation; colonial system; Bourbons Reforms; miscegenation.
