This paper seeks to contribute in the reflection about the process of media coverage or news production. The theoretical framework is based in the journalism studies, denominated in the academic literature sociology as: sociology of production or newsmaking and include: the news selection, the news values and the journalistic routines. This text focus on the scientific evidence of the news values present on the news, on the photojournalism and analog or digital formats. The objective is explaining the arguments that become at the homicide in multipurpose criterion used by the journalists in the media coverage and related to news values such as: frequency, threshold, conflict, reference to something negative and reference to persons.
