Abstract
MARTINEZ OLIVERA, Christian; MARTINEZ GARCIA, Karina Aidee and MIGUEL VELASCO, Andrés Enrique. Citizenship, Electoral Participation and Human Development. The Case of 17 Municipalities in Oaxaca (Mexico). Investig. desarro. [online]. 2022, vol.30, n.1, pp.69-98. Epub June 04, 2022. ISSN 0121-3261. https://doi.org/10.14482/indes.30.1.323.042.
The article analyzes 17 municipalities belonging to the state of Oaxaca, Mexico, during the 2000-2018period, with the aim of knowing the relationship between human development and electoral participation at the local level. It uses a quantitative methodology, through the design of a database with documentary information from governmental and non-governmental institutions. The hypothesis that arises is that human development has a positive and significant impact on the electoral participation of the municipalities. For its verification, descriptive statistics and regression methods are applied, obtaining a positive association between the analyzed variables. This is valuable information for the State institutions in charge of consolidating the democracy and credibility of the Mexican political system, as well as for political actors whose objective is to occupy public positions of popular election, to design strategies that aim to encourage citizen participation, as a key element to strengthen their projects.
Keywords : electoral participation; human development; citizenship.
