This work analyzes the socio-historical implications of the indigenous movement in Ecuador; As such, it is a reflection article that focuses on the following sections: the analysis of the 1990 uprising, its struggles, aspirations and historical implications to achieve power and political participation. This dispute, which was initially for the defense of the land and respect for their culture, gave the indigenous movement the leading role of becoming one of the key actors and claiming the needs of Ecuadorian society. In a second section, the conjunctural arrival to power in the uprisings of the year 2000 is examined. Finally, the presence of the indigenous movement in the riots of October 2019 is highlighted, which, together with many other social, student, transport unions, peasants and citizens, fought for the repeal of a Decree that raised the price of fuel.
