Abstract

RALON DE WALTON, Graciela  and  DUKUEN, Juan. Modes of domination in the socio-anthropology of Bourdieu. Outline of a review. Estud.filos [online]. 2013, n.47, pp.9-33. ISSN 0121-3628.

In this article we will make a critical reading of the theory of domination proposed by Bourdieu in the eighth chapter of The practical sense entitled ''Modes of domination''. There clearly distinguish two modes of domination: open violence and symbolic violence, secured in its reproduction by the passage of interpersonal relationships in ''traditional society'' to institutionalization through objective mechanisms in capitalist society. In this regard, we will show continuities and differences relating to the initial version of this theory in Reproduction, and then propose a critical review of this theory and the distinction, as classical as problematic, between objectivity and subjectivity in order to contribute to the development of a social phenomenology of domination grounded in the work of Bourdieu.

Keywords : Domination; symbolic violence; objectivity; phenomenology.
