Abstract

BENAVIDES, Cristian Eduardo. The determination of the willas the "essential Thomism" of Cornelio Fabro. Estud.filos [online]. 2015, n.52, pp.45-61. ISSN 0121-3628.  https://doi.org/10.17533/udea.ef.n52a04.

In the Thomistic tradition the Will has often been thought of as a faculty of the soul; one that simply follows Reason's commands. Cornelio Fabro, however, believes that the Will is not controlled by any outside force, that it is not subordinated to intelligence, but that it controls itself, it is self-determining. His essential Thomism, in this sense, displays a modern and existential interpretation of freedom and the act of the Will in Thomas Aquinas work. This paper will develop some of the more relevant aspects of his original exegesis.

Keywords : will; freedom; self-determination; choice; Fabro.
