Abstract

VARGAS, Diana S; GONGORA-ORJUELA, Agustín  and  CORREA, Jairo Jaime. Emerging viral diseases in Latin-American dairy cattle. Orinoquia [online]. 2012, vol.16, n.2, pp.88-96. ISSN 0121-3709.

This paper was aimed at updating readers regarding some recently discovered viral diseases or new viral variants affecting dairy-cattle production, with special reference to Latin-America. A growing human population's high demand for milk and its derivatives around the world may lead to as hort-term shortage, thereby increasing human malnutrition indices in many ountries. Progress must thus be made in epidemiology, diagnosis and monitoring to limit the dairy industry's financial osses caused by these diseases.

Keywords : Latin-America; dairy cattle; emerging disease.
