Abstract

MATARREDONA, Jordi Solbes  and  TORRES MERCHAN, Nidia Yaneth. What kind of conceptions do science students and teachers have of the critical thinking approach?. Rev. Fac. Cienc. Tecnol. [online]. 2013, n.33, pp.61-85. ISSN 0121-3814.

This paper presents the conceptions of critical thinking and its implementation in science teaching, from a group of pre service an in service teachers. An analysis of these conceptions was done by using various categories of analysis in order to identify the approaches known and used by the participants. There is evidence that they recognize the importance of critical thinking in the academic process but hardly the same educational scenario encourages this kind of thinking. In general, participants related the critical thinking to questioning, decision-making and reflection. Thus, this study represents a starting point to promote teaching strategies that contribute to the development of critical thinking in science teaching.

Keywords : Conceptions; critical thinking; scientific issues; academic practices.
