Abstract

MENDEZ HINCAPIE, Néstor Fernando  and  MONROY CANON, Ignacio Alberto. Designing a Python program for teaching Hohmann Transfer Orbit. Rev. Fac. Cienc. Tecnol. [online]. 2016, n.39, pp.81-102. ISSN 0121-3814.

This study presents a simulation in Python created as a didactic tool for studying celestial mechanics. The program that runs the simulation is designed for students to visualize all possible orbital trajectories as well as understanding principal transfer orbit´s characteristics using as an example the journey of a space ship from Earth to Mars and Jupiter. Additionally, the program can be used to determine the principal characteristics of the planetary orbits. In addition, the program can relate elliptical parameters to energy and angular momentum of the planets and in general with Kepler´s Laws.

Keywords : Orbits; Transfer Orbits; Simulation; Python.
