Abstract

PEREIRA DE QUEIROS, Wellington  and  DE SOUZA, Daniele Cristina. A Science Outreach Text on the Use of Amusement Parks in the Teaching of Physics - An Analysis on the Notion of Pre-service Physics Teacher. Rev. Fac. Cienc. Tecnol. [online]. 2016, n.40, pp.147-174. ISSN 0121-3814.

This paper presents a study aimed at analyzing the Physics pre service teachers' conception on the use of Amusement Parks as informal spaces for teaching physics in secondary school. It was also inquired if they have a critical reading of a scientific disclosure text. Qualitative research was used as methodology, the students were asked to read a text entitled "The science goes to the park" and then they answered an open questionnaire based on the reading. The participants involved in the study were twenty-one undergraduate students of the 5th semester of a BA program in Physics at UNESP in Brazil. They developed a quantitative and qualitative analysis of a thematic content to find out if they were able to identify mistakes or limitations present in the text, as well as the possibilities of using the Fun Park in physics teaching. After reading the scientific text it was noticed that 52,38% of participants identified no inconsistency, the 38.09% showed partial conceptual consistency and 9.5% highlighted errors in the text. Regarding the second question answers, most students (80.9%) agreed with the use of the amusement park as a teaching strategy to teach physics in secondary school. The reasons used to justify the use of this strategy were the motivational aspects of the park, a teaching approach to deal with daily life, viability of relaxation, concentration promotion, the variety of possibilities to teach physical contents, personal experience, contextualization, the ability to display content in practice and the development of experimental classes. From this response was possible to identify the pedagogical design of undergraduates, predominantly an insight into the teaching and learning process in relation almost directly between the concepts and the amusement park, aspect that was remarkable in the teacher´s explanation about scientific phenomena. There is therefore a descriptive and empirical view of concepts, which is important, but could limit the modeling process for teaching Physics.
