Abstract

ACEDO, María Antonia Dávila; CORTES, Ana Belén Borrachero; CANADA, Florentina Cañada  and  MARTIN, Jesús Sánchez. Affective and Cognitive Factors in Learning of Physical and Chemical Changes of Matter in Secondary Education Students. Rev. Fac. Cienc. Tecnol. [online]. 2018, n.44, pp.91-110. ISSN 0121-3814.

It is extremely important and necessary to detect the previous ideas of students before starting to teach new content. With this paper, the goal is to detect previous ideas that two groups of secondary education students have about physical and chemical changes, as well as the emotions and perceived self-efficacy that they express towards the learning of chemical reactions. The sample consists of 58 third-year students of Secondary Education, distributed in two groups of 29 students each. The results obtained show the existence of alternative conceptions with regards the physical and chemical changes of the matter, since students have trouble differentiating physical changes from chemical changes. Moreover, at the beginning they experience mostly positive emotions about learning about chemical reactions, although they also experience negative emotions.

Keywords : Emotions; self-efficacy; previous ideas; physical and chemical changes; secondary education.
