Abstract

ARRIETA-GARCIA, Emilio José  and  LOPEZ-MARIN, Juan Carlos. Development of the Scientific Competences through a Didactic Unit in Sixth Grade Students. Rev. Fac. Cienc. Tecnol. [online]. 2021, n.50, pp.35-55.  Epub May 09, 2022. ISSN 0121-3814.  https://doi.org/10.17227/ted.num50-14209.

International organizations recommend students to develop some scientific competences during their academic process. Therefore, it was sought to analyze its development through the implementation of a didactic unit in a group of sixth graders. This research implemented a mixed focus under a quasi-experimental design that counted on an experimental group and a control group. A didactic unit, whose school activities were prepared attending to students' learning needs and styles, was implemented in this research, within two tests applied to determine the level of development of the scientific competence. Instruments for collecting qualitative information were considered (observation and a class journal), with the implementation of the didactic unit propitiated an increase in the level of development of the scientific competence. The observation and recording of a class journal helped prove the importance of implementing activities in which students take an active role. Designed activities which consider the styles, characteristics and needs of the students propitiate the development of the scientific competence.
