Abstract

OLIVEIRA, Alessandro Silva de. Community Environmental Education with Family Farmers in Situations of Risk. Rev. Fac. Cienc. Tecnol. [online]. 2023, n.54, pp.118-137.  Epub Feb 09, 2024. ISSN 0121-3814.  https://doi.org/10.17227/ted.num54-17410.

This research article reports part of a process of community environmental education carried with family farmers at risk due to the use of pesticides in Brazil. It was developed for seven years with approximately 102 people, among adults and youth, from a small community of family farmers, located in a district of Anápolis, in Goiás, Brazil. Therefore, the study consists of an action-research from the Center for Research and Studies in Teacher Training and Environmental Education (NUPEDEA, originally), which aims to promote the empowerment of people subjected to situations of social vulnerability due to the use and exposure of pesticides. The research takes place in the spaces of the institution, in the farmers' workplaces, and in the community's rural school. The theoretical and methodological basis guiding the actions is the critical perspective of environmental education in dialogue with rural education. In this context, the data was/is collected in the daily experiences and through qualitative/quantitative instruments, analyzed through the Content Analysis. Thus, with the development of actions planned and executed through a community environmental education, we present the possible ways for the empowerment of farmers when faced the risk of using pesticides.

Keywords : community environmental education; family farmers; pesticides; rural education.
