Abstract

GALEANO J., Elkin; HIGUITA D., Elkin  and  MARTINEZ M., Alejandro. HALISTANOL TRIACETATE, A DERIVATIVE OF A BIOACTIVE METABOLITE FROM COLOMBIAN MARINE SPONGE Topsentia ophiraphidites. Vitae [online]. 2006, vol.13, n.2, pp.83-87. ISSN 0121-4004.

Marine sponges genus Topsentia are known as a source of interesting bioactive compounds. Here we report the preparation of halistanol triacetate, a derivative acetylated from halistanol. Halistanol was isolated from bioactive fraction of methanol extract from the marine sponge Topsentia ophiraphidites, collected on Santa Marta Bay (Colombian Caribbean Sea). Halistanol triacetate is characterized from chromatographic, spectral and chemical data. Bioactive fraction of T. ophiraphidites show in vitro activity against Staphylococcus aureus.

Keywords : marine sponges; Topsentia ophiraphidites; halistanol; antimicrobial activity; halistanol triacetate.
