One of the challenges for nursing care in this century is the rescue of the human being unit through research processes related with the capacity of nurses to reflect on themselves, to establish the nature of the phenomena and of the related values. This challenge is greatly focused on being able to know and to understand the essence of experiences in both health and nursing the phenomena in the daily routine of human beings. The epistemology as the knowledge development science provides tools to address the meaning or meanings, understanding these as one of the domain concepts of the nursing practice. The importance can be established from different knowledge areas; among others, philosophy with different methodological approaches such as phenomenology and hermeneutics, as well as linguistics, pedagogy, social psychology and ethnography. These various forms of conceiving knowledge entail several approaches that provide support to the practice. The nurse, in the process of providing care, should go beyond the exclusively linguistic notion of significance to the rescue of the human being unit, considering the language as an element necessary, but not exclusive, to understand and interpret in the narratives, the attributed experience and significance.
