Abstract

GALAN GONZALEZ, EDNA FABIOLA. Dynamics within families with adolescents who go to school in Paipa. av.enferm. [online]. 2010, vol.28, n.1, pp.72-82. ISSN 0121-4500.

Horizontal descriptive study, with a quantitative approach, from a sample of 102 families with adolescents who go to school in the municipality of Paipa (Province of Boyacá), and whose objective was to describe the effectiveness of family dynamics in the light of the Systematic Organization Theory proposed by Marie Luise Friedemann. The respondents were 102 adolescents, enrolled in an educational institution and whose ages varied from 13 to 18 years of age. The instrument used was the Family Functioning Evaluation scale, that allows for measuring the effectiveness level of the family dynamics through goals or objectives (stability, growth, control and spirituality) and through the dimensions (change, maintenance, consistency and individuation) of the family system. According to the results of the effectiveness of family dynamics, one could conclude that 62,7% of the families with adolescents who participated in this study have a low level of effectiveness of family functioning. In regard to the dimensions, individualization was found at a low level with 41,2%, followed by consistency and change, while maintenance scored the most in the high level (71,6%). The answers given by the families with adolescents that were surveyed positioned the goals at intermediate and high levels, which stand out in respect of the findings of the family dynamics' effectiveness that was found to be predominantly at a low level.
