Abstract

MESA MELGAREJO, Lorena  and  GALINDO HUERTAS, Solanye. Characterization of periodical publications on nursing in Colombia, visible in the Internet. av.enferm. [online]. 2011, vol.29, n.1, pp.159-168. ISSN 0121-4500.

Publishing scientific production is crucial for the discipline's growth. Periodical publications are the most effective and valid mechanism to disseminate scientific texts. The study had the purpose ofcharacterizing and describing existing Colombian nursing periodical publications and contextualizing dissemination possibilities of scientific production of nursing professionals in Colombia. Method: descriptive study. On-line search was carried out in different databases to find magazines and publications published by Colombian nursing organizations or institutions, visible in the Internet. Results: web searches showed a total of 18 publications, ofwhich 12 (67%) correspond to editions ofnational public and private nursing faculties and schools; 3 (17%) are informative newsletters and 1 (5%) is a publication edited by a University Hospital. Discussion: search ofmagazines comprised in this study was a complex journey; visibility of many publications, even in generic web search engines, is low, almost null; situation which would agree with the so-called "cloistering culture", which implies that, despite the large number of interesting and good quality articles published by these magazines, their theoretical-methodological contributions to nursing do not have a greater impact.

Keywords : periodical as topic; internet; nursing.
