Abstract

DIAZ HEREDIA, Luz Patricia; BUENO ROBLES, Luz Stella; MEJIA ROJAS, María Elena  and  LOPEZ, Lucero. Nursing research: a description in two Latin-American publications. av.enferm. [online]. 2011, vol.29, n.2, pp.285-293. ISSN 0121-4500.

The quantitative and descriptive study that describes the articles published in the magazines Avances en Enfermería (RAE) from Colombia and the Latin-Americana de Enfermagem (RLE) from Brazil between 2002 and 2007. The goal of this study is to identify the characteristics of the researches prepared by two Latin-American educational facilities that offer a doctoral degree in nursing. Methodology: A study of the total number of research articles published between 2002 and 2007 by these two magazines was performed. From a total of 532 articles, 49 were published by RAE and 487 by RLE. Results: the qualitative researches were more common in the RAE, with 79% of the total published articles; whereas the qualitative studies represented 49.4% of the research papers published by RLE. The use of theoretical references represented 49.8% and 40.9% in RAE and RLE, respectively. Collectively- authored articles were overwhelmingly common in RLE, with 93%, some of which had doctoral degrees; whereas in the RAE individual authors represented 51%, some of which had master's degrees. Conclusions: researches published in the magazines in question are based on different paradigms and possess a growing amount of theoretical support from their own and other disciplines. A small number of assistant nursing publications and experimental designs were found.
