BASTIDAS SANCHEZ, Clara Victoria; OLIVELLA FERNANDEZ, Madeleine  e  BONILLA IBANEZ, Claudia Patricia. Relation between functional capacity and self-care results in people with cardiovascular diseases. av.enferm. [online]. 2012, vol.30, n.1, pp.42-54. ISSN 0121-4500.

This paper presents the results of the research conducted with a population of 55 patients with cardiovascular diseases of Ibagué, which establishes the influence of functional capacity and self-care, using a European self-care scale with hearth failures and the modified version of the Duke's Activity Index (DASI). Results have demonstrated a greater incidence of cardiovascular disease in females, between 35 to 65 years old, diagnosed with dilated cardiopathy - the most serious stage of the coronary disease. By examining the global revision it was found that hearth failure accounts for the highest range of people with 69.1%. In terms of functional capacity, we found that 40% prove to be between minimum and moderate levels, and 92.7% between moderate and worse, as far as self-care is concerned. The dispersion graphs clearly shows the behavioral affinities of the patients with regards to both variables being assessed. The relation graphs evidences that both variables - self-care and functional capability - appear to be quite unrelated - despite the results do not show total or very large conformity. It was found that the functional capacity of people with cardiovascular diseases is committed in 40% as compared to a lack of commitment of 60%. This factor is quite concerning, since functional capacities decreases with age and the worsening of the disease. Thereby, this group of people could increase. Consequently, more studies are needed both with women and adult persons of different genders just as a greater intervention in observing the recommendations to improve their functional capacities taking into account self-care behaviors as an important element to fund the greatest wellness of the patient with cardiovascular disease.
