The present study had as aim determine the reliability of the instrument " Skill of care of familiar keepers of persons with chronic disease ", designed by Lucy Barrera in 2008, it answers to the need to possess a valid and reliable instrument for the measurement of the phenomenon in the Colombian population. For it there was realized a methodological, descriptive study. The instrument was applied to a sample shaped by 220 familiar keepers of patients with chronic disease Hospitalized in a Social Company (HSC) of Montería-Córdoba's condition, selected by sampling not probabilistic, for convenience having in it counts the criteria of incorporation. The results of the study allowed to conclude that the reliability of the instrument according to the index of internal consistency for the method of coefficient Cronbach's alpha in the total qualification was of 0,82 which demonstrates that it is an instrument with reliable index, with results that indicate interrelationship in the articles that compose the instrument, in addition I find for every sub-dimension, the above mentioned coefficient, giving like proved values that they determined; in that of relation 0.61, the comprehension 0,81 and modification of the life 0,41. Additionally, realize a general description of the characteristics partner demographic of the population object of study, likewise of the information thrown on having applied the instrument opposite to the behaviors of the skill of care and his dimensions of relation, comprehension and modification of the life. It is necessary to continue the process psychometric to the instrument looking to apply this in the future in Colombian context and with different populations of caregivers.
