Abstract

COZER MONTENEGRO, Livia; SIQUEIRA RENNO, Heloiza Maria; SILVA CARAM, Carolina  and  MENEZES BRITO, Maria José. Ethical issues in the practice of health professionals in a school-hospital. av.enferm. [online]. 2016, vol.34, n.3, pp.226-235. ISSN 0121-4500.  https://doi.org/10.15446/av.enferm.v34n3.45590.

Objective: To identify the ethical problems that arise in practices of health professionals in a school-hospital. Methodology: This is a qualitative study, carried out in internment units of a university hospital with thirty health professionals. The collection of data was recorded by interview conducted by a semistructured script, which was submitted to a textual discourse analysis. Results: The results showed ethical problems in two dimensions: Problems of interdisciplinary work and Problems resulting from the professional-patient relationship. In regard to problems resulting from interdisciplinary work, the lack of cohesion between actions and procedures of professional staff, the lack of knowledge of the role of other professionals, and the struggle for power on the technical/ scientific knowledge were considered. Regarding ethical problems raised in the professional-patient relationship, attitudes of exposure, discrimination, and prejudice with the patient were identified. Conclusion: It was perceived that, in practice, the ethics do not often appear in accordance with what is expected of health professionals, which demonstrate incidences of neglect and lack of respect in the interdisciplinar work team relationship, and in the professional-patient relationship.
