Abstract
ALVES DE MELO, Rosana; DE LIMA SOUZA, Sinara and SOUZA BEZERRA, Cristiane. Nursing care of children and adolescents living with domestic violence from graduating nursing students' perspective. av.enferm. [online]. 2017, vol.35, n.3, pp.293-302. ISSN 0121-4500. https://doi.org/10.15446/av.enferm.v35n3.61453.
Objective:
To understand nursing care provided to children and adolescents living in situations of domestic violence, from graduating nursing students' perspective.
Methodology:
This is a qualitative descriptive study, which was carried out in July 2014 using a semi-structured interview with 30 nursing undergraduates from a public institution of higher education located in Pernambuco state, Brazil. The data analysis was conducted using Thematic Content Analysis.
Results:
Nursing care is understood according to the logic of providing curative care and refering the problem to the other professionals in the health team. It was also acknowledged that, in order to confront domestic violence, whole health team and social protection network bodies need to participate, emphasizing the importance of health education.
Conclusion:
It is essential to address the issue of domestic violence in undergraduate curriculum, for the purpose of facilitating effective health care by future health professionals in domestic violence cases.
