GUTIERREZ BARREIRO, Reinaldo e GOMEZ OCHOA, Ana Maritza. Self-care agency and perceived self-efficacy in persons with ischemic heart disease. av.enferm. [online]. 2018, vol.36, n.2, pp.161-169. ISSN 0121-4500. https://doi.org/10.15446/av.enferm.v36n2.65674.
Objective:
To determine the relation between self-care agency capacity and perceived self-efficacy in persons with ischemic heart disease who attend the cardiac rehabilitation program, at a private clinic in the city of Neiva.
Methodology:
Correlational study, cross-sectional, with quantitative approach, based on Orem's Self- Care Deficit Theory and Resnick's Middle-Level Theory of Self-Efficacy Nursing. The sample consisted of 61 persons to whom the Self-Care Agency Appreciation scale (second version in Spanish) and the General Self-Efficacy scale were applied.
Results:
Most participants reported high levels of self-care agency capacity and perceived self-efficacy. With respect to the association between these two variables, through a canonical correlation analysis, a result of rc = 0.879, p < 0.05 was observed, demonstrating a strong degree of relation between the variables self-care agency and perceived self-efficacy.
Conclusions:
Self-care agency capacity and perceived self-efficacy are phenomena that are presented positively in persons with ischemic heart disease who attend the cardiac rehabilitation program. The relation between these two variables was confirmed, showing that perceived self-efficacy has an influence and a predictive effect over self-care agency capacity.
