From the analysis of the interviews, two empirical categories emerged: the everyday life of the art of nursing and monitoring of patients in the terminal stage of cancer, and factors that hindered the interaction of nursing with the companions, with focus on the interaction of professionals and the companion and factors of conflict between the parties.

Conclusions:

Nursing technician showed the importance of the companion in the process of terminal stage, to the extent that he can provide security and welcome to the patient. However, the absence of proper communication between colleagues and professional was the dominating factor in the generation of conflict. Nursing requires from the institution and companion spaces in which anguish and desires can be expressed, making this journey a moment of welcome and creation of linkages among those involved.
