Abstract

PARTEZANI RODRIGUES, Rosalina Aparecida et al. Violence against older adult women according to the ecological model of violence. av.enferm. [online]. 2019, vol.37, n.3, pp.275-283. ISSN 0121-4500.  https://doi.org/10.15446/av.enfermv37n3.73702.

Objective:

to understand the meanings and possible factors of violence according to the ecological model of violence for older adults living at home.

Methodology:

descriptive-exploratory and qualitative study, conducted with 19 older adult women. The data were collected through the realization of focal groups, and the conversations were studied on the basis of inductive thematic analysis, with the help of the Iramuteq software.

Results:

the theoretical model and the concept of violence enabled the construction of four categories: Socioeconomic factors and violence against the older adult; Violence and individual factors; Violence and social factors, and Violence and older adult's relationship with the community.

Conclusion:

for older adult women, violence is related to the constructed meanings about the problem, especially in today's society, where they do not feel respected as citizens with their rights and feel socially excluded.
