Objective:
To describe labor and childbirth from the perspective of multiple sclerosis patient.
Materials and method
Phenomenological study based on Husserl's descriptive phenomenology and Alfred Schütz's social phenomenology. The description was obtained through a phenomenological interview with a puerperal woman in August 2018 in a hospital in the Northeast, Brazil. The eidetic phenomenological reduction was applied to analyze the speeches of the postpartum woman with sclerosis.
Results:
From the analysis of the testimonials emerged the following categories: Fear of getting pregnant with multiple sclerosis (MS); Terrible pain and fear of labor, and Happiness with the baby.
Conclusions:
Motherhood in chronic conditions such as MS provides new meanings in the world of life, in which the birth of the baby projects new positive perspectives for a woman's future.
