Abstract
DA SILVA GOIS, Amanda Regina and CANDIDO BARBOSA, Paulo Filipe. Social representations about nursing during the COVID-19 pandemic. av.enferm. [online]. 2020, vol.38, suppl.1, pp.21-31. Epub July 27, 2021. ISSN 0121-4500. https://doi.org/10.15446/av.enferm.v38n1supl.89498.
Objective:
To compile the social representations about nursing elaborated by journalistic portals during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Method:
Documentary and descriptive-exploratory study based on the theory of social representations. Pieces of news published between February 26th and May 12th were collected from the most accessed journalistic portals linked to the printed media in Brazil. The data were analyzed using the software R Interface for Multidimensional Analysis of Texts and Questionnaires (IRAMUTEQ), version 0.7 alpha 2.
Results:
News analysis revealed representational content about nursing professionals, depicting them as those individuals who take care of people, need protection in order to do so, and comprise the largest workforce in health systems.
Conclusion:
The coronavirus phenomenon has allowed the transformation of representational content and the reframing of identity images about nursing professionals and their importance for health care.
