Abstract

DA SILVA FILHO, José Adelmo et al. Preventive recommendations during COVID-19 times in the light of the environmental theory. av.enferm. [online]. 2020, vol.38, suppl.1, pp.68-73.  Epub July 28, 2021. ISSN 0121-4500.  https://doi.org/10.15446/av.enferm.v38n1supl.88076.

Objective:

To reflect on the preventive recommendations regarding social isolation/distance, hygiene of the environment and of the hands in times of COVID-19 based on Florence Nightingale's Environmental Theory.

Content synthesis:

In the days of COVID-19, physical interactions between people in the environment decreased, especially due to social distancing measures. In addition, hygiene practices related to hand-washing and the sanitization of the environment have intensified, with the relationship between patient/ environment and nurse/environment being rescued through some aspects of the environmental theory that address the interaction of people with their environment with the aim of preventing viral transmission.

Conclusions:

In view of the current pandemic situation, this reflection contributes to the use of the ideas discussed in Florence Nightingale's environmental theory regarding the adoption of social distancing recommendations and hygiene practices of the environment and people's hands.
