Abstract

Objective:

To analyze the meanings around the autonomy of obstetric nursing assistance at a Child-Delivery Center.

Materials and method:

Case study conducted between September and November 2020 through 11 semi-structured interviews to obstetric nurses at a Child-Delivery Center in Pará (Brazil), sent via WhatsApp®. Data were recorded using the Cube ACR application and then submitted to content analysis under thematic modality with the support of ATLAS.ti 8.0 software.

Results:

The autonomy of obstetric nursing care is based on the work process and the applicability of the nursing process and scientific evidence, which ensures a safe and qualified practice, especially in the sharing dynamics between women and nurses towards empowerment in health care.

Conclusions:

The autonomy of nursing professionals at the studied center reaffirms a decision-making process for obstetric care that guarantees the knowledge and know-how of nurses in the daily care of women.
