Introduction

Nursing narratives reflect the experience that arises from the nurse-patient interaction in a moment of care, which can constitute a unique substrate in the generation of new knowledge from clinical practice.

Objective

To analyze the nursing narrative "A different Saturday", where the experience of a critical care nurse facing a patient in extreme severity is recounted.

Content synthesis

An inductive analysis of the narrative was carried out, considering the components of the nursing process, the four nursing perspectives proposed by Meleis and the disciplinary aspects of the nursing as care theory of Anne Boykin and Savina Shoenhofer. The analysis made it possible to show how this process is expressed in the actions of the nursing professional, highlighting the humanized and reflective care when planning clinical interventions for the maintenance of the potential donor, without leaving aside the psycho-emotional and spiritual aspects given to the subject of care and their family, and how this interaction changed the way they practiced.

Conclusions

The analysis carried out makes it possible to see how the nursing professional incorporates the different stages of the nursing process, showing that the nature of the planned care goes beyond the clinical, as it projects activities to improve coping and facilitate farewell. Due to the above, it is possible to recognize that nursing narratives can constitute a tool of great value to reflect on the meaning of care from practice, being a useful tool for the generation of new knowledge.
