Abstract

TIBOCHA, Ana María  and  JARAMILLO-JASSIR, Mauricio. Rafael Correa's Democratic Revolution. anal.polit. [online]. 2008, vol.21, n.64, pp.22-39. ISSN 0121-4705.

This document aims to highlight the political process in Ecuador from January 2006 and its alignment in the so-called XXI Century Socialism. Therefore, the article is divided in four parts. Firstly, we explore Rafael Correa's profile. That implies an analysis of his studies, his professional career and his political movement: Alianza País. Secondly, we will study his proposal for a new Constitution. In this way, there will be a comparison between the current process and the previous in 1998. In addition, the problems among the public branches, legislative and executive, caused by the new constitution will be described. Thirdly, the economic affairs will be analyzed. The re-negotiation of foreign debt and the South Bank project, the management natural resources and the state's role in the economic field, will be the three domains in which our study will be focused. Finally, Ecuadorian foreign policy under Correa will be evaluated, especially in relation to Colombia.

Keywords : XXI century socialism; citizenship revolution; lidarity economy.
