TOKATLIAN, Juan Gabriel. The Construction Of A "Failed State" In Global Politics: The Case Of Relations Between The United States And Colombia. anal.polit. [online]. 2008, vol.21, n.64, pp.67-104. ISSN 0121-4705.
This article analyzes the way in which the topic of "failed states" has been building up in the international strategy of the United States and the manner of that construction to have appeared in the relations between the United States and Colombia during the last decade. Our main purpose is to demonstrate that the "failed state" affair and its place in Washington's foreign and defense policy, as well as the preponderance of such a phenomenon within the Colombian-American bonds, have been socially and politically built. It implies that this text assigns an important place to ideas -in this case, the notion of "failed state"- in the actors' identity setting up, in the establishment of their interests and development of policies.
